Mission and Scope

What problem does this project address?

Sometimes open source projects don't work out. A public site like tigris.org accumulates a lot of projects and the inactive ones eventually need to be cleared away. But, we don't want to lose them completely.

What is the goal of this project?

To archive inactive projects on tigris.org.

What determines if a project is inactive?

It is done on a case-by-case basis. But, some things that we look for are: no source code, no recent commits, no discussion on the mailing lists, no issues, no response from emails to the project owner, and few visits to the project.

Student projects are likely to be archived some time after they university course is over.

Also, a project can be archived here if we feel that it does not fit the tigris.org mission of advancing open source software engineering.

We always try to discuss the status of the project with the project owner before taking any action to archive a project. And, if there is real interest in an archived project we can review it and possibly unarchive it.

Features

Archived projects will be stored as .tar files in the file sharing area.

Each archive will include the complete CVS repository and mailing list archives for the project. Issues, project roles, and news items will not be archived.

Status

There are currently no archived projects. I am starting to contact project owners.

The first set of candidate projects have all been made sub-projects of this project. They are not archived yet.

The next major milestone archive the first set of candidate projects. This will happen after some discussions with the project owners, probably wrapping up around mid-May.
